Blackpool have handed a trial to Aston Villa midfielder Daniel Johnson, writes WILLIAM WATT.
The highly-rated 21-year-old played 90 minutes in Pool’s 7-2 hammering by Bolton’s development squad at the club’s Squires Gate training ground yesterday.
Pool are casting an eye over the Jamaica-born Johnson with a view to a possible loan deal.
He signed a new two-year contract at Villa Park this summer after coming through the club’s youth ranks but is yet to make a senior appearance for the Premier League side. He played five times on loan at Yeovil Town last season in League One.
Johnson featured in a strong Blackpool side on a rain-soaked afternoon.
Steven Davies, Bobby Grant, Tom Barkhuizen, Michael Chopra, Nathan Tyson and Marvin Zeegelaar all played against a young Bolton side made up mainly of players from their academy.
Pool found themselves three down at the break before Davies and an own goal gave them hope.
But in terrible conditions the Trotters took control and, helped by four goals by striker Connor Wilkinson, cruised to victory in front of Pool’s watching boss Paul Ince.
Pool: Halstead, Barkhuizen, Clayton, McGahey, Staunton-Turner, Johnson, Zeegelaar, Grant, Davies, Chopra, Tyson: Subs: Hunt, Banvo, Charles, Waddington, Cameron.
