A REJUVENATED Luke Varney has revealed that a “nerveless” Blackpool have complete confidence they will stay in the Premier League.

The striker says the dressing room is happy and relaxed – unlike every other club battling for survival, including Sunday’s opponents Fulham.

Varney said: “I am sure a lot of clubs down at the bottom are nervous, but you ask our gaffer or any of the lads and there are no nerves here.

“It is quite weird because I was in this position last season (on loan) at Sheffield Wednesday.

“Everyone was treading on eggshells and it does affect your performance.

“But I think you can see from our first-half performance at Blackburn there are no nerves knocking about.

“We are not expected to win or stay in this league, so we are a dangerous animal because we are just looking forward to playing our football and getting good results.”

The 28-year-old added: “I think the lack of nerves is down to the fact that everybody is completely confident we will stay up – without being complacent – and I think that comes from the gaffer.

“At clubs I’ve been at in the past, nerves can be put into the squad.

“But the gaffer, in his interviews and the way he talks to us in training, always keeps us grounded and says we’ve nothing to worry about.

“He always calls us a great bunch of lads and we just want to keep achieving good things, getting results and proving the doubters wrong.

“The experts said it would be nothing less than a miracle if we stayed in this league, but I’m sure a lot of people will agree that if we stay up we will have thoroughly deserved it.

“We are going to give everything we can in the remaining games.”
