MANCHESTER United have been made the bookies’ favourites to sign Charlie Adam in the summer.
The Seasiders skipper, who almost left in January, will be the subject of frenzied speculation over the coming weeks.
Liverpool and Tottenham had bids rejected during the transfer window.
Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to be a big admirer of his fellow Scot and desribes Adam’s set-pieces as being worth £10m alone.
Ferguson will no doubt have been impressed with Adam yesterday, the 25-year-old curling a first half free-kick past Edwin van der Sar and enjoying a fine game in the centre of the Pool midfield.
William Hill bookmakers have made United 11/4 favourites to be Adam’s next port of call.
Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe said: “His performance against United will have confirmed Fergie’s high opinion of Charlie Adam, so we think he could find himself on United’s shopping list.”
Liverpool are 3/1 second-favourites to sign Adam, followed by Tottenham 7/2, Aston Villa 7/1 and Manchester City 8/1.
William Hill make the Seasiders 4-1 third-favourites to bounce straight back up to the Premier League next season, behind West Ham at 15/8 and Birmingham 2/1. Pool are 14/1 to win the Championship title.
