Jeffrey Rentmeister made a surprise return to action for Blackpool yesterday as the reserves crashed out of the Lancashire Senior Cup.

Pool’s second string missed out on a semi-final clash against Manchester United after losing on penalties to Rochdale at Bloomfield Road.

Callum Camps fired Dale ahead before teenager Luke Higham celebrated being offered a professional contract by equalising for Pool.

This sent the tie to penalties, and although Tom Barkhuizen, Connor Oliver, Nathan Delfouneso and Rentmeister all scored from the spot for Pool, Dom Telford’s miss proved fatal.

Rentmeister played the whole game in the heart of Pool’s defence, his first appearance since November 1.

The 30-year-old had to endure negative headlines in February, when his failure to appear in court following a drink-driving charge resulted in a warrant being issued for his arrest.
