Summer for football fans is usually as interesting as watching grass grow ... but for Pool followers this year that’s very interesting indeed.
With a lack of action on the transfer front so far to excite supporters, the progress of their much-discussed pitch is proving a major close-season talking point .
Much was said about the state of the Bloomfield Road surface last year and chairman Karl Oyston pledged to do everything possible to prevent such deterioration being repeated .
Groundsman Stan Raby and his team have been working around the clock to ensure the surface will be in perfect condition next season.
Ground staff removed the top 40mm of organic matter before approximately 319 tons of fibre sand were applied ready for the reseed, which took place two weeks ago.
And as our picture shows, the shoots of recovery are starting to show.
Work is also being done on the perimeter of the pitch, with the installation of 3G artificial grass around the touchline areas.
It is less than seven weeks until the pitch will be needed, with Premier League giants Newcastle expected at Bloomfield Road for a friendly on the last weekend of July.
