SUPPORT for Blackpool FC came from all over the Fylde coast on Saturday – including the air.
Club sponsors Wonga.com, an online loan company, played their part in spurring the team on to a much needed victory by flying an aircraft over Bloomfield Road with a good luck message.
The company, which recently signed a deal to remain as the club’s kit sponsor for two more seasons, organised a plane to fly over the ground during the first half, towing the message: “Up the Pool from Wonga.com”.
A spokesman for Wonga.com said: “We did one for the first home game of the season so thought it would be a nice touch to do one for the last home game with it being so crucial.
“We wanted to do our bit to lift the home fans.
“We heard the banner got a good cheer and there was a good reaction to it.”
Pool fans would not have been wrong to think the message was a stunt being played on them by local rivals Preston North End as the plane came into view.
Last Saturday, an aircraft bearing the message: “We are superior lover Blackpool FC” was flown over Deepdale, the home of Preston North End before their match with Watford.
And on last Monday’s Countdown, the Blackpool-mad producer set contestants the task of solving a conundrum which read: PNECRISIS.
Blackpool won the crucial game 4-3 to keep their hopes of staying in the Premier League alive.
After the match, Seasiders fans took to internet message boards to praise the stunt by Wonga.com.
Writing on fansite another view from the tower tangerinedave said: “Nice touch Wonga, thanks for the effort.”
Another fan, commenting under the username storthes_hall_seasider added: “Wonga gets the thumbs up for me regarding their approach this season.”
