Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has been named npower Football League young player of the month for his ‘dynamic’ exploits while on loan at Blackpool.

The 19-year-old scored four times in five games for Blackpool, before being recalled by his parent club Liverpool after the injury to Brazilian Lucas Leiva.

On-loan at Blackpool from September, Shelvey’s November haul included a hat-trick at Elland Road, as part of the Seasiders’ 5-0 demolition of Leeds United.

Another strike at Middlesbrough took his loan tally to six goals in 10 appearances.

Shelvey revelled in his short time at Bloomfield Road.

He said: “Blackpool is a great club to play for – the attacking way they played suited me down to the ground.

“It was easy in that respect.

“Ian Holloway said just play your normal game – he put his trust in me.”

Blackpool boss Holloway said: “Jonjo was fantastic – he had a lot of frustration when he first came, I think he is an entertainer.

“I think he has all sorts of talent, and he will never lose that.

“Hopefully he will get the chance to use that and shine, because he really suited us.

“The boy is good enough to play anywhere, and in our system floating in off the right, he was dynamic.

“He has gone a long way to giving us some confidence, and making us realise we can win some games.

“I hope his career goes from strength to strength.”
