BLACKPOOL look likely to miss out on Jason Puncheon after QPR entered the race to sign the Southampton winger.
The Seasiders had been hoping Puncheon would agree to return to Bloomfield Road in a £1m deal had he not received an offer from the Premier League new boys.
But now the Loftus Road club have officially expressed an interest and are in pole position to land the tricky wideman, who made the step up to the top flight admirably while on loan with Pool in the second half of last season.
QPR boss Neil Warnock said: “We need a wide player. Wayne Routledge looks like joining Swansea and we’ve been looking at Jason Puncheon.
“He has done really well and is exactly the sort of player I like. He’s pacy and direct, someone with something to prove and a bit of hunger.
“We need players like that this season, so we need to see what happens in the next 10 days or so.”
Puncheon has not been given a squad number by Southampton for the coming season. Warnock may offer defender Kaspars Gorkss – another former Pool player – in part-exchange.
QPR are also edging closer to finally signing DJ Campbell. Pool accepted their £1.25m offer last Friday but the deal still hinges on the striker agreeing personal terms.
