TEENAGE goalkeeper Chris Kettings was set to be on the Seasiders’ bench against Villa after yesterday’s bid to sign a keeper proved fruitless.
The Seasiders approached every other Premier League club in their quest to loan a keeper after Paul Rachubka’s new knee injury left Richard Kingson as the club’s only senior stopper available for today’s game.
The Gazette understands that Manchester City’s out-of-favour Shay Given (left) was top of Pool’s wanted list, while the closest the club came to a breakthrough was with Tottenham’s Ben Alnwick.
However, Spurs ultimately decided against releasing their former England Under-21 keeper just 11 days before the clubs meet at Bloomfield Road.
That left second-year trainee Kettings, a Scotland Under-19 international, to cover for Ghana’s No.1 Kingson today.
