Roman marching back to top form

ROMAN Bednar can expect to be back on the bench tonight, but it doesn’t mean he’s done anything wrong.

Boss Ian Holloway was pleased with the striker’s full debut against Portsmouth, but two games in four days will be too much for a player who had been frozen out at former club West Brom, and has barely played all season.

Holloway also wants to spend more time with Bednar on the training ground. He feels he needs to work on how the 28-year-old can best fit into Pool’s style.

“Roman will be better for getting those 90 minutes,” said the manager.

“I want everybody to have a chance. I want everybody to feel they will get a game, and he did well.

“There are things to work on.

“I knew what I wanted on Saturday, but it didn’t quite work first half. It was down to Portsmouth’s two banks of four. We couldn’t move them around enough.

“We managed to do it late on and most of the second half was like the Alamo. Was that because we were better? Possibly yes.

“I think how teams are playing against us is a mark of respect. But I would like a much bigger, flatter pitch to move the ball around on, because we look good when we do that.

“I was very frustrated towards the end of Saturday’s game, because we had a lot of the ball, and it was working how I wanted it to, but we were playing it into feet, rather than hitting Bednar.

“We might have won again had we done that.”

Taylor-Fletcher and Nouha Dicko will hope for a recall tonight.
