Jose Riga hopes to complete his first signing for Blackpool today as progress finally starts to be made at Bloomfield Road.
Estonia striker Sergei Zenjov has agreed terms with the Seasiders and underwent a medical on the Fylde coast last night.
Should the 25-year-old pass his examination, he will put pen to paper on a deal today.
Zenjov, who plays for Ukrainian Premier League club FC Karpaty Lviv, has scored seven goals in 33 appearances for Estonia, including a superb strike in a World Cup play-off against Holland last year.
The 6ft striker has also found the net against Northern Ireland, Italy and Belgium.
And it’s not only on the pitch that manager Riga is making progress at last.
Terms were agreed last night with three men the Pool boss wants on his backroom staff, and The Gazette understands contracts are now in the hands of the trio awaiting their signatures. As revealed in The Gazette this week, Riga has chosen former Antwerp boss Bart De Roover and ex-England U19 coach Noel Blake as his assistant manager and first-team coach.
It’s believed vastly experienced goalkeeping coach Paul Crighton is also set to join Riga’s staff after being shown around Bloomfield Road last night. The widely-travelled 45-year-old played for 26 clubs during his playing career and most recently worked as a coach at Grimsby Town.
After waiting to put his coaching staff in place, it’s believed Riga’s player recruitment drive will now get into full swing.
