MATTY Phillips is still struggling to get a foothold in the Seasiders’ starting line-up – but he must be doing something right because he’s impressed the boss.
Ian Holloway, who said Phillips returned from England’s Under- 20 World Cup duty low on confidence and too defence-minded, believes the winger is slowly getting back to his best.
Phillips came on for the last 20 minutes against Ipswich and Holloway felt he did well. The manager said: “Matt looked much better and it is great to see him back with us because he had lost a bit of confidence.
“All confidence is, is anticipation of a positive outcome. Sometimes you can’t feel it when you keep losing every week and you get relegated.
“When Matt was with England they didn’t score in four games and he was defending when he wants to attack.
“He is enjoying being with us again because we encourage all our players to attack. I think that is the best form of defence, and I think he’ll be exciting if I can help him over that spell with England.”
