Bright Osayi-Samuel took a step back in time on Wednesday night, playing and scoring for Blackpool’s youth team.

His opener couldn’t prevent the Seasiders crashing out of the FA Youth Cup 4-1 after extra time against Crewe at Bloomfield Road.

And youth boss Ciaran Donnelly couldn’t hide his disappointment after watching his side lose out.

“I think it’s fair to say over 90 minutes we probably shaved it,” he said.

“We played really well in the first-half and got to grips with them. We knew they were a good team and we were going to have to upset the way they played, and we did. In the first 45 minutes we were excellent and in the first 15 minutes of the second half we were excellent.”

Osayi-Samuel was a real threat against the opposition for an hour before being rested after feeling his calf.

“We had to take Bright off because he was struggling with injury and it changed the flow of the game.”
