Blackpool will attempt to dip into the loan market to solve a defensive crisis.
Tom Aldred’s fifth yellow card of the season means he is suspended for tomorrow’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie at Wigan, while fellow centre-half Lloyd Jones is a long-term injury absentee.
It leaves Pool desperately short in the heart of defence and McDonald said: “Let’s keep our fingers crossed we can add a couple of players.
“I’ve been to watch games and have made plenty of calls. With Tom getting suspended, we’ll be hoping to bring a centre-back in for Tuesday’s game.”
Having admitted last month that the club’s reputation made it tough to make signings, the manager has continued his search only to see injuries hamper some transfers.
McDonald added: “Players I’ve wanted to bring in have had knocks and things, which stopped the deals. I’ve had conversations with their managers, and as soon as they are fit I’ll try again.”
Another player who will be missing tomorrow is keeper Colin Doyle, who twisted his ankle at Barnet.
McDonald said: “I’m hoping it will be all right for Saturday. We’ll check to make sure there’s nothing more serious but we think it will be fine with plenty of ice.”
