BLACKPOOL’S hopes of signing Jason Puncheon have gone up in smoke – he is now part of Southampton’s plans.
After being frozen out for the last 12 months, culminating in a Twitter outburst this week in which he criticised the club’s chairman, Puncheon has held clear-the-air talks with the Saints and suddenly appears to be back in favour. It is a quite incredible U-turn and a kick in the teeth for both Pool and West Ham, who had bids for the 25-year-old turned down this month.
Saints manager Nigel Adkins says he is delighted the matter has been resolved.
Adkins said: “Jason has grabbed an oar and is back on board, rowing in the same direction with us, and we are delighted with that.”
Puncheon is under contract at St Mary’s until summer 2013. He had been training with the youth players, but linked up with the first team yesterday and could feature in Saints’ FA Cup trip to Millwall tomorrow – more than a year after his last appearance for Saints.
