As Blackpool’s search for a new manager drifts on, fans have had their say on who they want to see appointed.
Former Charlton boss Jose Riga came out on top in The Gazette’s online poll, with Billy Davies, Lechia Gdańsk manager Ricardo Moniz and former Manchester United no.2 Mike Phelen also prominent.
Belgian Riga, 56, took over from Chris Powell at Charlton in March with the club at the bottom of the Championship. He led them to safety with eight wins, three draws and six losses, including a superb 3-0 win against Blackpool on the final day.
The former AC Milan academy chief walked away from The Valley last month and is understood to be interested in the Pool job. He has been in contact with Pool chairman Karl Oyston.
Riga took 36 per cent of our vote, twice as many as Davies, who attracted 18 per cent in second place.
The Scotsman was offered the Blackpool job in January last year, following the departure of Michael Appleton for Blackburn, but opted instead for a second stint at Nottingham Forest.
He has been out of work since leaving the City Ground in March and is believed to be on Oyston’s shortlist of potential candidates.
Dutchman Moniz soared to odds-on favourite two weeks ago, when news broke of Oyston’s trip to Poland to watch his side play. Although the club’s interest in the former Tottenham coach appears to have cooled, he polled 14 per cent of votes.
Pool were set to announce Brian Flynn as manager on Monday only to make a last-minute U-turn. While the club remains silent, it is believed chairman Oyston spoke to two more possible candidates yesterday.
