POOL are set to make a breakthrough in the transfer market today by completing the signing of Isaiah Osbourne.
The midfielder, rated as among the best in the SPL, will join from Hibernian in a six-figure deal.
Barring a last-minute hitch, he will sign a 12-month deal with an option for a further year.
Osbourne was first spotted by Ian Holloway in 2008. Osbourne was at Aston Villa, Holloway was manager at nearby Leicester City.
He signed him on loan, only for Osbourne to be recalled by Villa before he’d had chance to play a game.
But Holloway has kept tabs on the 24-year-old ever since, and was hugely impressed by Osbourne’s maiden year in Scotland last season, where he made 35 appearances and scored one goal.
“The manager has admired Isaiah for a long time,” said a source at Bloomfield Road.
“We have been in talks with Hibernian for the last few days and are very hopeful a deal will go through in the next 24 hours.
“The manager has spoken to Isaiah by phone from the training camp in Portugal and is looking forward to having him at the club.”
It will be the Seasiders first proper signing of the season. Right-back Jake Caprice, 18, was picked up on a free from Crystal Palace but is viewed as one for the future and will slot into the development squad.
Osbourne will step straight into the first-team set-up and be a rival to Barry Ferguson, Angel Martinez, Keith Southern, Ludovic Sylvestre and Chris Basham.
