Edu Oriol is close to joining his twin brother Joan at Blackpool.
Winger Edu watched Pool’s Capital One Cup defeat at Shrewsbury on Tuesday, when Joan made his debut, and has been training with the club all week.
He’s one of a host of players Jose Riga is keen to sign, with the manager looking to recruit as many as 10 before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
Edu Oriol, 27, is described as a pacy winger, who spent last season with AEL Limassol in Cyprus. And although he hasn’t had the high-profile career of Joan, he did play 60 times for Barcelona B from 2009-2011.
Building a squad after the season has begun is far from ideal but Riga insists he’s had no alternative.
The Pool boss said: “Ideally we’d like to attract players who are already fit but that’s going to be difficult.
“Nothing replaces playing football and we only had two friendlies. We just want to try to be ready for each game.”
While Riga identifies the players he wants, negotiations are left to new club secretary Chris Hough and chairman Karl Oyston.
The Belgian boss is hoping for positive news. He said: “I hope the coming days will bring news about new players. But you’re asking the wrong person about the progress we are making. I can’t answer because I don’t know.
“At the moment we just don’t have enough players. We aren’t able to rotate at all.
“We had two young players on the bench on Saturday and not enough cover on Tuesday. It’s not good enough.”
