Pool boss left furious after being 'struck' by objects

The incident happened as the Blackpool players and staff celebrated their third goal, which came in the fifth and final minute of stoppage time as Newport County pushed forward in numbers to find an equaliser.

Bowyer claimed "all sorts of objects" were thrown in his direction from the home end near the dugout, with some hitting him.

Bowyer said: "It's something that shouldn't be seen anywhere, never mind a football match.

"They're a hostile crowd and the supporters are right on top of the dugout. The players and staff on the bench were celebrating but there was nothing untoward.

"There was a few yee-hahs because we had just scored a goal and then I've got hit with objects.

"There's no place for it and the lack of stewarding was incredible. It will be investigated - the referee has made me aware of that and it will be in his report.

"The scenes aren't scenes that should be seen anywhere, especially when there's kids sat there. I was seeing grown men making hand gestures and they've got kids next to them - it's embarrassing.

"There was all sorts. There was a bottle and there were sweets. I wouldn't mind but they weren't my favourite sweets. Now I'm making a joke of it but that could have seriously taken someone's eye out. It could have damaged or cut someone.

"Okay, supporters pay their money to come into a ground but it doesn't give them the right to do that. What would have happened had one of my players or a member of staff jumped into that crowd? Guess who gets the blame then? It's not right.

"We haven't done anything wrong and there has to be a full investigation of it by Newport County Football Club and the FA and I won't let it drop, because that could have easily done some damage to me, to my staff or the players - even the Newport staff because they were stood nearby.

"If I was a member of Newport County, whether that be the chairman, the board or the managerial staff, I'd make sure that doesn't happen again."

Bowyer was later seen taking part in a highly charged discussion with Newport's stewarding team.
