Paul Ince has backed Michael Chopra to make an impact at Bloomfield Road.
Blackpool’s 29-year-old striker arrived from Ipswich this summer with a big reputation of scoring goals.
But he’s as yet not managed to nail down a regular place and hasn’t scored in any of his nine matches so far.
Pool boss Ince is convinced his forward will come good, but claims he needs to get fitter first.
“Chops came here and will openly admit he wasn’t fit enough,” said Ince.
“This is what people don’t really understand.
“When you sign players late who haven’t been playing, they get a move and haven’t done any pre-season.
“So it’s hard to get them up to the rest of the lads.
“Chops has been working really hard to get himself up to a level where he needs to be.
“He’s getting there, but he’s got a way to go.”
Chopra came off the bench at Nottingham Forest to set-up Stephen Dobbie’s late winner, and it’s a role it sounds like he’ll have to get used to.
“He’ll be making cameos like he did on Saturday, and that’s what he’ll be doing until he’s fit,” added Ince.
“Both Chops and Stephen Davies need to get fit.
“I’ve told him that if he gets fit he’ll get in the side.”
