Blackpool have been boosted by the news Tom Ince has rejected Cardiff, but rocked by the results of a scan on Matt Phillips’ injury.
Phillips was involved in a nasty fall during training on Thursday and had a scan on what was originally believed to be a dislocated elbow.
But the Seasiders were stunned to discover their talented winger could miss as much as three months of the coming season after a break was revealed.
The 22-year-old will have an operation on the break this morning, but may not not be fit to return to action until October.
It wasn’t all bad news for manager Paul Ince, with the news his son decided against a move to Cardiff.
The Premier League new boys had an £8m bid accepted for the winger last week, and spoke to the player on Monday. But after taking his time making a decision, the 21-year-old decided against a move.
He will be in action this morning as Blackpool play League Two side Morecambe behind closed doors, where Ince Snr is expected to name a full-strength side featuring hardly any trial players.
But on Tuesday night they travel to Kendal Town where they are expected to field an 11 made-up of youngsters and potential new signings.
It will be a busy week for the Seasiders, who play four games in the next seven days, but manager Ince wouldn’t have it any other way.
“It was important we got these games arranged,” he said.
“We needed another game, especially after Saturday against Penrith.
“As players it’s important that you have a game to work towards after a tough week of training.
“We don’t want to be left behind other clubs.
“Last week was good for fitness, I enjoyed it and I want to keep moving forward. I expect the same from today’s game.”
Pool have a host of trial players currently with the squad as Ince looks to build a new team ahead of the new season, who are all expected to get game time in the coming week.
