IAN Holloway has revealed last week’s player of the season night was his most emotional experience in football.
Several players were in tears and the manager wasn’t far from crying.
The boss and his squad fear that, with three players out of contract, and Charlie Adam and DJ Campbell being chased by a host of top-flight clubs, it could be the end of an era.
Holloway wrote in his newspaper column: “I have never had a more emotional footballing experience than our player of the season night.
“It was 24 hours after our relegation. We wanted to hide and sulk but our fans were terrific, like they have been all season.
“They spent all evening telling us how proud they were of how we’d played and how close we’d got to shocking those pundits who’d written us off.
“We had players go up on stage to accept awards in floods of tears. Brett Ormerod and David Vaughan could barely speak.
“After it ended, at 11.30pm, I called a meeting. What was said will remain private but it will stay with me for a long time.”
