Jose Riga faces another defensive crisis at Reading this afternoon and insists he will have no problem selecting Joel Dielna, writes WILLIAM WATT.
The left-back lasted only 17 minutes in a nightmare debut at Huddersfield last Saturday.
Dielna was dropped for Tuesday’s defeat by Derby but injuries and suspensions could see him recalled this afternoon.
Joan Oriol (ankle) and Tony McMahon (suspension) will both miss today’s game, leaving Riga desperately short of options at the back.
And the manager says that after talking with Dielna he wouldn’t hesitate to pick the Frenchman again.
Riga said: “We have to remember it was just one bad game and he wasn’t the only one who wasn’t good that day.
“I had to react to what was happening and as manager I made a decision to take him off.
“But that doesn’t mean I won’t trust Joel if I pick him at Reading. I have spoken to him and have been watching him in training. Those sort of games can happen to any player and it doesn’t mean I’ll just forget about him.”
Riga has been impressed with Dielna’s response and added: “We have spoken about what happened but not too much. He has recovered well in training.
“The reaction has been good from him, as has the reaction of the group to him.”
