Blackpool new boy David Perkins says he’s delighted to sign for a big club.

The midfielder, who has joined the Seasiders from Barnsley on an 18-month contract, passed a medical at Bloomfield Road yesterday.

Perkins held talks with two other Championship clubs this week before committing to Pool, and he couldn’t wait to reveal his choice to certain friends.

The 31-year-old explained: “I’m delighted. Blackpool is a big club and it’s absolutely fantastic that I’ve finally signed.

“A few of my mates are big Blackpool fans and I’ve not told them yet, so we’ll see how that goes down. One of them has a season ticket, so hopefully he’ll be happy.

“I had a couple of options but I’m delighted to be here. The set-up here is good, with the new stands and everything, and I’ve been down to the training ground and the pitches are decent. I’m happy to be here.”

Perkins has played 25 times for the Tykes this season, most recently in the FA Cup defeat by Coventry a fortnight ago, but manager Danny Wilson has been forced to trim his wage bill.

Born up the coast in Heysham, Perkins spent seven years with Morecambe, then moved on to Rochdale and Colchester before joining today’s opponents Barnsley in summer 2011.

He added: “I’m going to bring plenty of enthusiasm and quite a bit of experience now that I’m getting on, but I’ve not lost my legs or my appetite for the game.

“Hopefully there will be a bit of quality there as well, and if I can add a few goals that would be fantastic.”

Pool and Barnsley have agreed that Perkins will not play today and he is unlikely to attend the Oakwell match.

“It will be a bit strange but I probably won’t go because I don’t know what kind of reception I’ll get,” added Perkins, who was Barnsley’s man of the match in their 1-0 defeat at Bloomfield Road in August.

But he’s already finding his feet at his new club and looking forward to a home debut against Doncaster next Saturday.

“I know Gilo (Matt Gilks), Bash (Chris Basham) and a few of the other boys, so hopefully I’ll settle in pretty quickly,” he said.
