The Gazette's readers have voted Kelvin Mellor as their Blackpool player of the season for the 2016/17 campaign.

The right back picked up more than 50% of the public vote from the nine-man shortlist, with over 1,000 Blackpool fans having their say.

Fellow defender Tom Aldred finished second in the vote with Brad Potts a close third.

Mellor picked up the gong at tonight's awards evening, where he also collected the players' player of the season trophy.

Mellor’s two awards cap off a fine campaign for the 26-year-old, who has put in a host of solid performances in defence while netting seven times in all competitions.

His performances were also recognised by his peers when he was included in the PFA’s League Two team of the year.

Meanwhile Tom Aldred picked up the main club award, the John Schofield Memorial Trophy.
