Sheffield Wednesdays Ryan Lowe gets passed Alex Baptiste but his shot is saved by Matt Gilks.

SHEFFIELD Wednesday boss Gary Megson admitted Pool are a “class act” but reckons last night’s result might have been different had his team taken an early chance.

A third-minute defensive slip by Alex Baptiste allowed Sheffield Wednesday’s Ryan Lowe through on goal but the frontman’s effort was blocked by Matt Gilks.

Owls boss Megson said: “We had a great opportunity in the first few minutes and if that goes in ... I’m not saying the result would have been different but I think our performance would be have been.

“But Blackpool took their goals brilliantly and I thought they were a class act with the way they kept the ball.”

Megson had spoken prior to the game about the league being his priority, and the former Seasiders boss said he is now happy to concentrate on the quest for promotion from League One.

He added: “We certainly wanted to win, but everything at this club points to being successful in the league and we are not strong enough to beat Yeovil, take on a strong Blackpool side and then go to Exeter (on Saturday).

“We had to chop and change the team. If anybody said to me, ‘You’re playing three games in the next eight days. Which two do you want to win?’ I would have said the two league games. Our priority has to be the league.”
