BLACKPOOL have been assured by Liverpool that Jonjo Shelvey isn’t joining Middlesbrough.

The Seasiders were shocked to hear reports over the weekend that the Reds’ frontman had gone on loan to Championship rivals Boro.

However, the reports are false and Shelvey – who missed out on a place on the bench for Liverpool’s Carling Cup win at Wembley yesterday – remains at Anfield.

The Gazette understands Pool have been assured they will be the first to know if Kenny Dalglish decides to allow the striker back out.

Shelvey had a successful loan spell with the Seasiders before Christmas, scoring six goals in ten games before being recalled early after an injury to Brazilian midfielder Lucas.

With Steven Gerrard fit again, there is a chance Shelvey will be allowed out again soon. Ian Holloway would be keen to sign him, especially with forwards Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Matt Phillips and Roman Bednar all suffering from injuries.
