Tom Ince and Matt Phillips have returned to training, but both are way off a return to action writes.
Ince is suffering from a tear in his thigh, while fellow winger Phillips broke his elbow in a training ground clash in pre-season. Both returned to light training this week and are back running but it could yet be a while before they return.
Although Phillips’ fitness could matter not after Harry Redknapp was quoted this morning suggesting a transfer move to QPR is close.
“I have Thomas on the training ground running in straight lines with Matty Phillips, but neither of them can play,” said Ince.
“It’s very frustrating.”
Ince was injured during Pool’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Preston almost three weeks ago.
Despite picking up the injury in the first half, Ince played on for the full 90 minutes and scans later revealed a tear in his thigh.
And his boss, and father Paul admits maybe he should have taken him off.
“He’s still a bit away,” Ince Snr revealed.
“We didn’t realise how much damage he actually did against Preston to be honest.
“In hindsight maybe I should have taken him off when I wanted to and maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad.
“But he wanted to play on as it was a big game for us.
“He wanted to try and win the game for the lads and the fans.
“It was a seven centemetre tear in his thigh, which is now down to four.
“That’s after two weeks, so we are hoping after th international break he’ll be ready for Bournemouth.”
22-year-old Phillips faces a longer spell out of action, with Ince revealing he could be at least another month.
He said: “Matty can do a lot of running and everything apart from contact.
“It’s frustrating as you see him on the training ground running and kicking balls and you think there’s nothing wrong with him.
“The consultant had told us it will be another four weeks before the bone heals in his elbow.
“It doesn’t make it any better for me.”
