IAN Holloway has tipped Craig Cathcart to come back wiser and stronger next season after the defender’s miserable end to the season.
After being a regular for the majority of the campaign, Cathcart lost his place with five games to go and was an unused substitute in the final day defeat at Manchester United.
Things got worse when he scored an own goal in Northern Ireland’s 5-0 thumping by the Republic of Ireland in the Carling Nations Cup on Tuesday.
Holloway said: “Craig is a brilliant player and he has a huge future in front of him. I rate him highly.
“I left him out because I thought he needed a break, and unfortunately for him Alex Baptiste came in and hardly put a foot wrong.
“Craig will no doubt be disappointed about the way his year ended but he is a key player at this club.”
