IAN Holloway has revealed why he decided against signing former target Adam Hammill.

Hammill was made available for a loan move by Wolves a fortnight ago.

Holloway thought about doing a deal but decided that he already had enough cover in the wide areas.

The Pool boss tried to sign Hammill from Barnsley last year in a £500,000 deal but the 24-year-old opted to join Wolves instead.

However, Hammill asked to go out on loan after failing to nail down a regular place at Molineux and has signed for Middlesbrough until the end of the season.

Holloway said: “Hammill is a good young player but it is all about being in the right place at the right time.

“I would consider that at the moment, with us having Tom Ince, Matt Phillips and Nouha Dicko, that we might have a few too many widemen if I had tried to get Hammill as well.

“The thing I liked about him 12 months ago was that he was in a rich vein of form.

“He had scored eight goals when we tried to get him and he had been at our club on loan before.

“But he went to Wolves and I am comfortable with him now going to Middlesbrough on loan because the likelihood is that they will play him more often than I could have because of the options we’ve got.”
