Bolton Reserves 3 Blackpool Reserves 0

MATT Gilks took another step toward full fitness but he couldn’t prevent the reserves slipping to defeat at Bolton.

Gilks, who has been out since breaking his knee cap in November, is now desperate to win back his first team place as soon as possible as the season draws to a close.

He made some good stops in last night’s second string encounter with Wanderers at Leyland, but a strong Pool side were beaten 3-0.

Billy Clarke started his first game since rupturing the cruciate in his right knee last summer.

The Irishman played 45minutes and showed flashes of skill, proving he has lost none of the ability he showed in the Championship last season.

Keith Southern, Neal Eardley and Matty Phillips also played, to keep their fitness up ahead of Sunday’s vital Premier League clash with Arsenal.

Pool: Gilks, Eardley, Basham, Eastham, Sbai, Southern, Reid, Clarke, Kornilenko, Phillips.

Subs used: Martin, Coid, Tomsett
