Ferguson aiming for FA Cup hat-trick

POOL skipper Barry Ferguson is aiming for a third successive FA Cup quarter-final.

The former Scotland captain lifted the Scottish Cup and the League Cup when he was at Rangers.

He won the Carling Cup with Birmingham last year – Ferguson playing a key role in the shock win over Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.

Completing the set and lifting the FA Cup might be a tad tricky, especially as Blackpool didn’t get the kindest of fifth round draws – a trip to Goodison Park not exactly a straightforward task.

But Ferguson is loving his football at Blackpool at the moment, and believes the team is improving all the time.

And if the Seasiders can spring a surprise tomorrow and dump their Premier League opponents out, it will mean yet another place in the last eight for the skipper.

“The game at Everton is great for us as a club,” he said.

“We all know that our main goal is promotion and we won’t be distracted from that, but the Cup could be very good for us.

“Everybody knows what a great competition it is and it will be interesting to see how far we get.”

Whether Ferguson starts tomorrow is unclear. Chris Basham was rested in midweek and should start. Same goes for Angel Martinez, who will be rewarded for his patience with a place in the starting 11.

Ferguson could complete a flat three-man midfield, or Holloway might opt to go with a more attacking player in the hole between the midfield and the attack.

One thing the manager might want to bear in mind – Ferguson knows how to win, and score, in the Cup at Everton. During Birmingham’s run to the quarter-finals two years ago, the Scot scored the winner in the Blues’ 2-1 fourth round win at Goodison.
