REAL Madrid’s Blackpool-born groundsman has won yet another award.
Paul Burgess, who started his career at Bloomfield Road, has been announced as one of this year’s Gold Award winners by the Association of Colleges Gold Award – given to those who have gone on from further education.
Blackpool South MP Gordon Marsden attended a special ceremony in the House of Commons in his capacity as Shadow Minister for Further Education and Life Long Learning, when the winners were announced.
He said: “Both as a shadow minister and Blackpool MP I’m delighted – it’s a fitting tribute to his skills and training that he’s gone from learning his trade at Bloomfield Road to working for Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
“This really does prove that further education can be a route that leads to ‘Real’ success. I hope Paul’s award will be an inspiration to young people.” Mr Burgess added: “I have been privileged to win a number of awards but to win an award that covers many areas of study makes me particularly proud. It also makes me really happy to be able to promote Blackpool.”
