Evo: Coventry’s keeper bit me

IAN Evatt claims he has been hit with a two-game ban for being bitten on the nose.

The Seasiders centre-back will miss tomorrow’s trip to Carling Cup finalists Cardiff and Tuesday’s FA Cup replay at Sheffield Wednesday after picking up a tenth booking of the season.

Evatt was controversially yellow-carded as he tried to wrestle the ball off keeper Joe Murphy in the final stages of Tuesday’s win over Coventry.

The 30-year-old said: “I thought it was a harsh booking. We had scored to make it 1-1 and I was just trying to get the ball back so we could go and get a second. “The keeper hung on to the ball. He had been wasting time all game, so he was trying to waste more.

“He bit my nose, which made me a bit mad, then the ref decided to book both of us, which was a ridiculous decision, if you ask me.

“It is a blow because I don’t like missing games but I knew it was going to happen at some point, I suppose.

“I was on nine bookings and I was never going to last until April without another caution, so it is probably best that one of them is a cup match and I only miss one in the league.

“I am really disappointed to miss Cardiff, though, because it is such a massive game for us.

“They are a very good team – one of the best we have played at home this season – but we have to try to get something because they are ahead of us in the league and we don’t want the gap getting too big.”

“It’s just a pity I’ll have to watch it on Sky Sports News rather than being on the pitch.”
