A Blackpool fan has become an internet sensation, without even know it!
19-year-old season ticket holder Dale Rayner thought it would be funny to make light of Pool’s depleted squad situation by replacing the usual player’s name on the back of his replica shirt with ‘Trialist 9’.
He wore the club’s new third kit at Bloomfield Road on Saturday and was snapped by fellow fan Mark Meehan, who posted the picture online.
Within hours it was all over the internet and featured on national newspaper websites.
The Gazette tracked down Dale to discuss his instant fame. “I just thought it would be a laugh to have that on my shirt,” he said.
“We’ve had a tough summer as fans but we can see the funny side of it all.” It’s not the first time Dale has opted for a quirky shirt print, with ‘Ollie Mourinho’ previously emblazoned across his shirt in tribute to former boss Ian Holloway.
He added: “I chose the number nine as that’s how many trailists we fielded against Burnley. I got loads of calls from people saying they saw me online,’’
