Blackpool have been boosted by news Jose Cubero will be available for the weekend’s trip to Scunthorpe.

The Costa Rican was due to be away on international duty for games against Brazil and Uruguay this week, but has surprisingly been left out of the squad.

New head coach Óscar Ramírez opted against picking the midfield man after his difficult start to the season at Bloomfield Road which has seen him start just one game.

After missing the whole of pre-season due to his participation in the Gold Cup, Cubero has found himself out of favour at Bloomfield Road with boss Neil McDonald claiming he was ‘behind’ the rest of his team mates in terms of
match fitness.

The 28-year-old spent the summer trying to get a move away from Bloomfield Road, believed to be concerned about his international future should he be playing League One football.

Elsewhere, John Herron finally returned to training this week after a six-week injury lay-off. The midfielder, who joined from Celtic this summer, was one of a small group taking part in training at the club’s Squires Gate training ground yesterday.

With most of the players handed the day off, assistant boss Richie Kyle held an extra session for the likes of Lloyd Jones, Jarrett Rivers, John Herron and Charles Dunne. Blackpool have been boosted by news Jose Cubero will be available for the weekend’s trip to Scunthorpe.
