Blackpool’s squad players have the perfect chance to impress Lee Clark today when they face Manchester United, with a Manchester City starlet in their ranks.
A Seasiders XI travel to United’s Carrington training base this morning to take on what is expected to be a young Red Devils side in a behind-closed-doors game.
Blackpool’s team will include England U20 midfielder George Evans, who joined the Seasiders for training yesterday with a view to a loan move from City.
The 19-year-old is highly rated at the Etihad, having come through their acadamy.
He has been on the bench in the Champions League but is still awaiting his senior debut.
Evans made 25 appearances on loan at Crewe last season and it’s believed City now want him to make the step-up to Championship football.
Evans is expected to play today in a game manager Clark arranged last week to look at fringe players and trialists.
Chris Eagles and Darren O’Dea are both expected to get a run-out in tangerine before Clark decides whether to offer them deals at Bloomfield Road.
United aren’t expected to field any senior stars, though some fringe players may be involved.
It’s not only United who will use the game as a fitness exercise, with Pool striker Steven Davies set to make a long-awaited return from injury.
The striker hasn’t played since August and will start today’s game, alongside Francois Zoko and Andrea Orlandi.
Clark will get his first look at Tom Barkhuizen, who has recently returned from a loan spell at Morecambe, as well as Formose Mendy and Jeffrey Rentmeister.
Jonathan Legear, the midfielder brought in by Jose Riga but only signed after the Belgian’s sacking, is also in line for his first Pool run-out.
