Bowyer buoyed by Blackpool's bright start

Having put in promising displays in defeats at Bradford City and Wigan Athletic, Bowyer’s players picked up their first points of the season with Saturday’s 1-0 win against MK Dons at Bloomfield Road.

Bright Osayi-Samuel and Viv Solomon-Otabor have shone so far – albeit without scoring the goals their play has deserved – while Colin Daniel put in a man-of-the-match display last time out after being moved from the left-hand side into the centre of midfield.

Bowyer said: “There are so many positives to take from the last game and build on, not just this week but for the whole season.

“There is the enthusiasm as well as the pace and power that we have in the team.

“The most impressive player against MK Dons was Colin Daniel, who I thought was excellent in the middle of the park.

“Tactically he was spot-on against an MK Dons team different from the one last season.

“We coped with that and took the game to them. The only disappointing thing was we didn’t take advantage of the opportunities we’ had.”

While the Seasiders’ passing football garnered praise in the opening week of the season, what has also offered encouragement is the way some of their new signings have made the step up to life in the third tier.

Osayi-Samuel and Solomon-Otabor have grabbed the eye but just as impressive have been the performances of Curtis Tilt, Nick Anderton and Sean Longstaff.

Tilt shone on his debut at Bradford, with his passing from the back a particular highlight.

Anderton had a slightly more difficult debut at Wigan but was another player to impress at Bloomfield Road.

As for Longstaff, he backed up a promising outing at Wigan Athletic with the winning goal on Saturday.

Bowyer said: “The step up from Curtis and Nick has been terrific. That was Nick’s full (League) debut, while Tilty played at Bradford and performed very well.

“He backed that up again against MK Dons but we have to be careful with them because it’s all new to them.

“The potential they have shown is why we brought them in and they fit in with our resources – we can’t spend the money others do.

“We knew that Sean has great composure on the ball and he’s going to be a hell of a player when he grows into his ability.”
