Blackpool are being linked with a swoop for Blackburn striker Chris Brown.

The 31-year-old becomes a free agent on July 1 and isn’t expected to be offered a fresh deal by new Rovers boss Owen Coyle.

And it’s believed he’s one of many on the radar of Gary Bowyer as he looks to strengthen his squad at Bloomfield Road.

Bowyer is no stranger to Brown, having signed him at Blackburn from Doncaster Rovers in 2014.

The former Sunderland and Norwich City striker joined his hometown club Doncaster on a free from Preston North End in 2011 and went on to score 23 goals in 97 appearances.

But he found chances tougher to come by at Ewood Park, failing to score in any of his 30 games.

Brown would fit the bill of the ‘experienced’ player Bowyer is hoping to lure to Bloomfield Road as he aims to guide Blackpool back out of League Two at the first attempt.

While Bowyer wasn’t to be drawn on specific targets, he said: “I’m passionate about bringing players through but at the same time I don’t want my squad to be too young.

“Looking at my squad here we are very young and I want to bring in three or four experienced heads.

“It’s something I’ve already spoken to players about but they have to be the right types.”

Pool have 15 players in their squad at present, although it’s expected a few could be moved on this summer by the new boss.

It’s expected Boywer will ask for a 22-man squad, meaning plenty of work is yet to be done in the transfer market.

He added: “I don’t think I can specify an actual number of players I want, I won’t limit myself.

“We have to see what the balance of the squad is like when we start adding players.”

As well as adding to their squad, Bowyer is working hard to complete their plans for the pre-season with just two friendlies having been arranged so far.

It’s believed Pool will travel to Scotland for a training camp, and are hoping to squeeze in two games in the process, while at least three other games are also on the new manager’s wishlist.

The Seasiders will known their destination for the coming season a week on Wednesday, when the 2016/17 fixtures are revealed.
