Blackpool in play-off form but must keep it up, says Robertson

If Blackpool maintain the performance level from their dominant win against Cheltenham a top-seven finish is all but a formality.

That’s according to defender Clark Robertson, after Pool’s routine 3-0 win against the relegation-threatened Robins at Bloomfield Road last Saturday.

The 23-year-old Scot is confident Gary Bowyer’s men will clinch a play-off berth if they are able to repeat that confident display in their remaining two games against Notts County and Leyton Orient.

“We definitely believe we can do it,” Robertson said.

“Going into the last two games it’s in our own hands and we would have taken that at the start of the season.

“All we can do is concentrate on ourselves and win on Saturday.”

Blackpool travel to Notts County this weekend knowing four points from their final two fixtures of the regular season will be enough to keep them above the line.

The Magpies have lost their last two games, against Luton and Portsmouth, but prior to that new boss Kevin Nolan had guided them to four wins out of five to secure their safety.

It means County have little to play for against Pool but Robertson is still expecting the very best from Nolan’s men.

“Kevin Nolan has got them playing again,” he added. “They’ve got nothing to play for on Saturday but I’m sure they will be fired up.

“We’ve just got to do our own job, and we know that if we play as well as we did against Cheltenham we’ll get the three points.”

The Seasiders have tightened up at the back in recent weeks, with the clean sheet against Cheltenham their third in a row.

Robertson has been an integral part of that defensive solidity alongside his centre- back partner Tom Aldred.

And the Scot knows that will have to continue if the Tangerines are to return to League One at the first opportunity at Wembley next month.

He added: “It was massive to get another clean sheet against Cheltenham, which was our 15th of the season.

“We know that if we get a clean sheet we’ll always get chances at the other end, and we will score goals.”
