Clarets matchwinner Charlie Austin is the top scorer in the country with 16 goals – but it could have been so different.
Blackpool had an offer accepted for the striker (who scored the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Burnley) last year, when he was at Swindon, only for the deal to break down over personal terms.
Holloway admitted: “It’s a very bitter one to take for us. Charlie’s a dangerous player, that’s why I wanted to buy him.
“We put the money up for him before Burnley but we couldn’t pay his wages. That sums it up.
“He’s gone and scored against us again and that hurts a little bit. His goal knocked the stuffing out of us.”
