Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander insists major surgery isn’t required as his team faces up to life in League One.

Town have made just one summer signing so far, the capture of Danny Andrew from Macclesfield Town.

But Alexander made it clear there was no rush despite Fleetwood’s rivals having a three-week head start.

“It is what it is,” he told The Gazette.

“If I didn’t think the majority of this group could step up it would be a problem.

“But I think they can.

“It puts us on the back foot a little bit. Other teams have a start on us with, they’ve been doing their work and their recruitment.

“We’ve still got time. There’s still time for us to bring in the players we want to bring in. We’re not going to rush into anything.

“We believe we’ve just got to make tweaks to the squad to help the players we’ve got.”

The Town boss is known to be on the hunt for a striker following the departure last week of Jon Parkin.

He’s also waiting to hear if first team stars Chris Maxwell and Conor McLaughlin will put pen to paper on new deals.

McLaughlin has stood down from international duty but is not due back in the country until next week.

He could play a crucial role again for Town at a level he has experienced before.

With players like McLaughlin at his disposal Alexander insists League one holds no fear for Town.

He said: “We’re not putting any targets down, any markers

“We’ll just go out every week to compete and see where we get.

“But we’re not frightened by the step up in level.”

Town’s League One fixtures will be released next week
