Montrose: No time for Fylde to dwell on defeat

AFC Fylde midfielder Lewis Montrose has urged his team-mates not to dwell on their first defeat of 2017 at Mill Farm.

Striker Dave Tarpey scored all Maidenhead’s goals to condemn 10-man Fylde to a 4-1 home defeat on Tuesday.

Tarpey’s first two goals were penalties, the first after he was hauled down by Coasters captain Josh Langley, who was sent off.

Montrose was guilty of giving away the second spot-kick, after handling in the area, but the midfielder soon redeemed himself by poking home his first goal for the club.

And Montrose, a summer signing from Stockport, is keen to put the result behind him as quickly as possible.

He said: “Obviously it was a very disappointing result but we will have to recover from it and bounce back quickly.

“We have another chance on Saturday to try to put it right at home to Dagenham and Redbridge. That’s the beauty of a quick turnaround.

“It was good to get off the mark on a personal level but the result is always the most important thing. We dust ourselves down now and go again. We can’t dwell on it.

“It was difficult when Josh went off but the performance isn’t important now – the result is what matters.”

Saturday’s visitors The Daggers are fifth in the National League following Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Ebbsfleet United.

Fylde drew with the Kent club by the same scoreline last Saturday and are without a win four games into the season.

Montrose added: “We want to win matches and we haven’t done that yet this season, so we have to try to put that right against Dagenham and Redbridge.

“We are looking forward to it very much. They are a very good team and I expect them to be right up there, but it’s a good chance to see where we are at against one of the better teams in the league.

“I believe that we can beat any side in this league on our day and we have to start proving that.”
