Fleetwood to hit the net

THE All England Crown Green Championship, which returns to Fleetwood Bowling Club next year for the first time in a century, will be shown live on the internet.

It will be streamed live online on July 24 as part of a six-tournament package.

Osprey Water Management Ltd, based in Wem, Shropshire, have agreed a deal for exclusive rights to sponsor internet screening of five other major crown green tournaments.

The Autumn Waterloo at the Blackpool green will also be shown, along with the Waterloo Spring, the Champion of Champions tournament and the Ladies' Waterloo, all taking place at the South Shore arena.

The 2010 Midlands Masters will also be shown as part of the deal.

It is seen as a major boost for the sport in the light of the lack of terrestrial television coverage of the game.

Waterloo bowls manager Jim Parker said "This is great news.

"Many more people now have internet access and this will bring top crown green bowls into their homes". "The Waterloo green will also benefit with Osprey agreeing to maintain and develop the bowling green watering system".

The bowls websites 21up.co.uk & talkingbowls.com have formed a partnership and will have exclusive rights to screen the events.

Leading bowler Mel Evans will present the programme, while Parker will be part of the commentary team, alongside Paul Hickman, Jeff Russell and Lynn Pritchatt, multi-winner of the ladies' Waterloo.

Highlights of the programmes will be produced and streamed for each of the six events.

Osprey Water Management managing director Jon Jinks said "As the premier supplier of irrigation services to the crown green bowls community, Osprey are passionate about the promotion and expansion of crown green bowling.

"This type of opportunity does not come along very often, so when Mel Evans invited us on board it was the easiest decision we've made all year.

"I for one can't wait to get involved with the production of both the screening and the highlight packages of the UK's most prestigious bowling competitions.

"The Waterloo is a spectacular venue for these events and now anybody can enjoy the atmosphere and tensions that go hand in hand with these levels of major competition, all from their own living room".
