Fleetwood line up Bolton friendly

Fleetwood Town FC are hopeful that the first game on their new pitch will be the friendly against a Bolton Wanderers XI on Monday, August 3.

Chief executive Steve Curwood confirmed that the Bolton game will complete Town's seven-match pre-season programme before the club start their second season in Blue Square North five days later.

Curwood said: "Final confirmation of the game has taken a couple of weeks but it was Bolton who requested a game from us.

"I understand their first team will also be in action that night but they have promised to field a strong XI.

"It will be a good test for the lads with the season starting the following Saturday."

Curwood said the contractors are confident that the 120,000 resurfacing work will be complete in time for the Bolton game.

He added: "The final part of the irrigation system is currently being finished and seeding is going on late this week."

The Blue Square North fixtures will be announced on Friday, July 3.

Town start pre-season training the following Tuesday, then head to Scotland later in the week for a training camp. The opening friendly is at Queens Park on Saturday, July 11.

n keeper Mike Hale has left Fleetwood to link up with former Town boss Tony Greenwood at Unibond First Division North club Bamber Bridge.

The former Burnley keeper aims for regular first-team football at Irongate, having found his opportunities limited at Highbury as deputy to Town no.1 Danny Hurst.

The only Fleetwood-based player in Micky Mellon's squad, Hale made nine league and cup appearances, besides helping Town reserves to win their league last season.

Chairman Andy Pilley said: "Mike has been a fine servant to the club over the last three seasons. Once he has a full season under his belt to show everyone what a good goalkeeper he is, I'm sure Conference clubs will show an interest."
