West Park 5 Fleetwood RU U14 10
After two postponements on a rain-hit Fylde coast, Fleetwood were forced to forfeit home advantage in this Blacksticks Cup tie and head to St Helens.
The hosts’ pitch was heavy but playable and they scored the opening try.
However, Fleetwood gained he upper hand as the half progressed and Michael Pangburn scored the equalising try shortly before half-time.
The visitors soon began to make inroads after the restart but had to wait until one of the final plays of the game for Henry Anslow to score the winning try from Pangburn’s offload.
Coach John Jeffery was pleased with his side’s display after falling behind.
He said: “We didn’t pay close enough attention and they caught us on the hop for the first try, but I was confident we had the ability on the park to draw level.
“Each member of the squad played their part. We introduced fresh legs and went on to win all our scrums and line-outs.
“I was particularly impressed with the way the lads came into action immediately after the Christmas break.
“Usually we would have worked through a number of training sessions before going into a competitive game, but the squad performed well and deserved the win.”
