Everyone for tennis!
THE excitement of Wimbledon reached St Annes as south Fylde schoolchildren played out their own thrilling tournament.
The annual event at St Annes Tennis Club involves children from primary schools which receive coaching from Bruce Garner and other qualified club members.
Schools were invited to enter two teams for the first time and the day of non-stop action involved 24 teams playing over 80 matches.
The teams were divided into four for group games, with the top two in each group progressing to the knockout stages.
The group winners fought it out for the main trophy, while runners-up contested the shield.
King Edward VII and Queen Mary School reached both finals but were defeated in both.
Newton Bluecoats emerged as winners of the main event, defeating KEQMS A, whose B team were beaten by Strike Lane of Freckleton in the Shield final.
Everyone who entered automatically became a free member of the Lawn Tennis Association and Garner told AllStars: "Considering how many of the children had never played before this year, the standard was very good."
The other schools involved were Ansdell, Clifton, Freckleton, Heyhouses, Kirkham and Wesham, Lytham, Mayfield, Medlar with Wesham, St Peter's, St Thomas', Weeton and Willows.
