CHAMPIONS Lytham have slipped to third place in the Liverpool Competition after batting out a draw at Leigh.

Michael Rigby claimed 3-55 off 16 overs as Leigh reached 212-9 after 55 overs, the final three balls of the innings each producing a wicket.

T Foster made 73 and A Batterley 43 in this clash of the ECB premier league high flyers.

Dominic O’Brien led the Lytham response with a second successive half-century, this time dismissed for 59 as one of three victims (for 50 off 18 overs) for the former St Annes bowler Michael Baer.

But when O’Brien was fifth out and Lytham lost two more in the next 11 deliveries, their hopes looked slim at 142-7.

But skipper Anthony Mulligan (17 not out) was joined by Marcus Sharp (12no) and they successfully saw out the final 10.5 overs, closing on 168-7.

Both teams claimed seven points but Lytham have been leapfrogged by Ormskirk and new leaders Colwyn Bay.
