Roses cricket gets a whole new look this Friday.
Instead of the traditional Red Rose taking on the White Rose of Yorkshire in the Friends Life twenty20 clash at Old Trafford, Lancashire will be wearing green!
The idea is to to raise awareness of the club’s official charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.
It will be the first time Lancashire have not played in a red strip in the shortest form of the game .
The 12-month partnership aims to raise £20,000 for Macmillan, who will stage a collection at the game. Match-worn players’ shirts will also be auctioned off at a future date to raise more cash for this charity for people living with cancer.
Lancashire Lightning captain Glen Chapple said: “We’re proud to be wearing Macmillan colours for the biggest game at Old Trafford this season. The players are happy to raise awareness for a charity which does such important work in the North-West and we can’t wait to see Old Trafford turn green for the occasion!”
A limited number of tickets priced £15 (juniors £8) are still available for the match, which starts at 5.40pm. Call the ticket office on 0161 282 4040.
Before then, Lancashire bid for a fourth straight win in the t20 north group at home to Leicestershire tomorrow evening. It’s a rapid rematch following the Red Rose’s five-wicket win at Grace Road on Sunday.
