FLEETWOOD Cricket Club are the Twenty-20 kings of the Northern League.
They triumphed in the TWP Wealth T-20 competition, after beating Leyland and Lancaster to grab the main prize in spectacular style.
It was a real treat to set before the Fleetwood fans on their own ground, and there was a sizeable crowd to witness an exciting day’s cricket with an appropriate outcome.
Fleetwood’s Adam Parker was voted man of the match, to round off a momentous day in the history of Fleetwood cricket.
They will now represent the Northern Premier League in the area final of the England Cricket Board T-20 competition, to be held on Sunday, at New Brighton Cricket Club.
They will play Horwich CC (Bolton League) and Northern CC (Liverpool Competition) in a triangular competition. In the semi-final of TWP Wealth competition, Fleetwood edged out Leyland by seven runs in a thriller, professional Sean Liebisch making a big impression by scoring 59 off 43 balls.
Fleetwood scored 135 for five in 20 overs – Leyland fell short with 128 for six.
In the final, and roared on by their home spectators, Fleetwood defeated Lancaster in emphatic style.
It is the first trophy that Fleetwood have won since 2004, and continues their outstanding season, in which they are fighting for titles on three fronts.
They are in the semi-final of the league cup competition, and are in the running for the Northern League title.
The league cup semi-final against Darwen, originally scheduled for Sunday, has had to be put back because of the T-20 commitments.
One setback to Fleetwood is that professional Liebisch is not eligible for Sunday’s area final at New Brighton.
